12 Creative Ways to Use fpPathfinder To Help Your Marketing

May 27, 2020
How Advisors Use The Checklists and Flowcharts, Marketing

As a fpPathfinder member, have you ever wondered, “How do other advisors use fpPathfinder checklists and flowcharts in their firm?”

The list below is a small sample of ways we have seen advisors use our resources in their practice. This is not an exhaustive list, but a great starting point to see the countless opportunities your membership can create.

Start small and incorporate one or two of these ideas. Experiment with ways that naturally suit your style. There are many ideas to consider below.

As a Deluxe member or Premier member, use your white labeling access to create done-for-you marketing assets.

Ideas By Audience

  • Prospective Clients: If you have a prospect reach out to you about a particular issue, send them an appropriate resource that addresses their concern along with specific thoughts relevant for their situation.
  • New Clients: Set yourself apart from competition from day one by incorporating the “Issues to Consider As A New Client” checklist. This will set the tone with new clients that you are diligent and use tools like flowcharts and checklists to help them through financial planning processes that are easy, thought-through and organized.
  • Current Clients: The next time you are trying to get a meeting scheduled with your client, include the “Issues To Consider In A Client Annual Review Meeting” as an attachment in your email and tell the client “It’s important that we meet, because we need to discuss some of the issues addressed in this checklist”. This same approach can be adapted to many of our recurring checklists and life event checklists.
  • Circle of Influence: If you are trying to target referrals from your Circle of Influence, send them a sample of your branded resources and encourage them to pass them along to their clients so you both look professional. Some advisors send a pack of resources around a specific theme to their Circle of Influence and create an easy way to connect with their COI and provide value at the same time.

Ideas to Improve Your Marketing

  • Post a checklist or flowchart on key pages of your website. For example, if you focus on retirees and have a few pages dedicated toward your process in working with clients going through retirement, include the “What Issues Should I Consider Before I Retire?” checklist.
  • If you have a blog, write an entire post about a specific resource. In this case, the resource is an outline and you can fill in the gaps with additional details or perspectives to put your spin on the issue you are trying to cover.
  • Turn our resources into a lead capture opportunity. If you like the two ideas mentioned above, you could use a email service like Convertkit to turn a resource into a lead magnet. In this case, the prospect could read the blog post and, if they want to learn more, provide you their email address in exchange for the resource. Perhaps, you bundle several resources together with a common theme, write an introduction and turn it into a white paper. Convertkit handles all the technical stuff to make that happen and is very easy to use.
  • Use our resources on social media. From the PDF we provide, you can export the resources as an image using Adobe Acrobat. From there you can post to Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Instagram or whatever other social network you want to use. You could incorporate this tactic along with some of the other ideas mentioned above.
  • Include a checklist or flowchart in an email newsletter. If you have a newsletter, give a resource could it’s own dedicated space, like a “Resource of the Month” section. Perhaps it’s a very relevant resource, such as “What Issues Should I Consider During A Recession Or Market Correction?” checklist. We are consistently creating and releasing “timely” resources you can share this way with your clients or email list.
  • Work our resources into your client services calendar. If you have a service calendar that you use with clients, incorporate our resources as dedicated elements of your service calendar. For example, you could send out an email every September asking clients if they would like you to review their insurance policies and include “What Issues Should I Consider When Reviewing My Health and Life Insurance Policies?” checklist. There are a lot of resources that could be used for this very purpose.
  • When meeting with clients or prospects. When you meet with clients (or prospects), include a sample resource as a leave-behind or brochure. Perhaps there is a group of three to four resources that you give to all clients who are thinking about retirement. In some senses, it’s a physical version of the ideas listed above.
  • Framework for video and podcasts. These resources can be adapted to work in a podcast or for video. For example, you could use Zoom or Loom to record yourself discussing a resource and then send the video of you out to your mailing list and post online. You could start it off like this: “Hi everyone, today I wanted to walk you through some of the important decision points to consider before doing a Roth conversion”. While you’re talking you show an image of the “Should I Consider Doing A Roth Conversion?” flowchart to create an easy to follow visual.
